and so it begins...

Pictures from land grab, and the progress in Vair and Ermine as of 1pm on Sunday. :) I even remembered to take pictures of the inside of our tent, which I always forget to do. It shows better how much we have to pack to live as we wish.

*whimper* This is the first Pennsic I've missed in... oh, 15 years, almost. And only the second one I've missed since I started. I *am* going to miss it, but hey, your fishies will be fed, right? :)

See you tonight - I have a favour to ask, so if I forget, remind me (if you remember).

Woe! Woe! Pinkleader taunts us with pictures of places we would much rather be! Such cruelty! (hey, I can respect that)

Frankly, we'd much rather have you there too.
Have fun at J-town this weekend.

I was looking at www.flickrvision.com last night and saw you uploading them realtime. It was amusing.

*whimper*

Wanna go! Wanna be there RIGHT NOW!!!!

Okay... tantrum over... :P

This is the first time in three years I haven't been there for land grab. I miss it!!! But your camp looks fantastic, as always. :)

Did you get pictures of your "original gate"? While it might be handy for late night calls from nature, I figured the smell would drive a couple people out of camp...
pinkleader[info]pinkleader on July 31st, 2007 01:51 pm (UTC)
No I didn't. We figured that was only when we were in an inhospitable mood. Now that camp has come together, we are much more hospitable and therefore "opened" our gate. :) Luckily, nothing but armor and tools lives in the blue and gold tent.

Cruel, cruel woman.

I am so ready for napping under the day shade, but alas, not this year.

Are you guys 14x14 or 16x16? I was hoiping we'd end up with a similar layout but with the queen bed turned against a side wall. It looks like it might not fit though based on your picture. Wish we had more time to try it out but if you guys are 14x14 maybe we'll be okay...
pinkleader: crazy[info]pinkleader on July 31st, 2007 05:20 pm (UTC)
We are 16x16, and our bed is only a full size futon. (Theo and Roland have a queen size bed and an 18x18 tent.) If you push the bed to a corner, you'll probably be okay. Remember that it is 16x8 in the back if you divide in half. Also, along the back wall we have the shelves and coolers under them. If you don't have that, you gain an extra 18 inches or so of walking space.

We used to put the bed in one back corner and the closet and stuff in the other back corner, use the entrance by the center pole to get to the back. We seem to like this better, but there are other options.

hmm, well we also have to fit the boy's bed (bunk bed cots) in there in addition to the clothing rack and boxes. We'd like to maintain a "front porch" where we keep things looking a little more clean but I'm unsure if everything will fit back there. Time will tell. What did you use for your curtain poles? I can't tell how you secured them in the center. Also, I like the clothing rack you guys have up but have you figured a weight limit at all or it pretty much supports most of your clothing without issues? It looks great btw.

You might want to consider moving boxes of food and coolers to the front room, covered to be like seating. That would free up space in the back for clothes and stuff. You can see in the pics of the front room a plain IKEA box under the trestle table that we bring lanterns in. Those might work for you, and they are sturdy enough to sit on.

Our curtain poles are two 8 ft poles with eyelets in either end. We use pieces of chain to hook the end eyelets onto the central perimeter poles, and we hook the other eyelet ends onto the center pole. You might need to use Roland's method of using chain to suspend the ends in the center from a higher hook since you have the sleeve on the center pole to break it down in half. If you go to this large pic, you can scroll to the right and see the chain bit hooked over the pole spike and then around the divider wall end eyelet: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=957755004&size=o&context=set-72157601109041416

Finally, for our closet, we hang quite a bit of heavy garb on it, and haven't had it max out on weight before it maxes out on space. First we have bottom spikes in two of our perimeter poles to stabilize it in the ground. Then we have generic closet pole installation shelf hooks that hook onto a slightly backed out screw on the same modified perimeter poles. We stabilize the bottom bit with some small bungees or cords. Then place a 5ft closet pole in the hooks and call it done. Does this make sense? It does require tightening the ropes on those poles daily. Roland has a different method involving two A frames and a top pole for clothes.

Also, a reminder to bring your and Clare's sheet walls since we left space for them on the end. :)
If it is easier to call me, our home number is in the Acorn under Chamberlain, deputy Exchequer.

You guys don't do anything halfway, do you? I had always thought Pennsic a less formal affair, but you have banners and tents aplenty. Funny, how you never shared Pennsic pics with me before! All Hail LJ!
pinkleader: smile[info]pinkleader on July 31st, 2007 09:48 pm (UTC)
Only in the past year with a new digital camera and flickr have I started TAKING Pennsic pictures. I didn't share as there was nothing to share. I am notorious for taking the camera everywhere and never using it. sigh.

Pennsic is the one place where we really go all out. And yeah, only seeing the pictures of all the stuff set-up can you really get a scope of why our vacation packing involves two trucks and a camp trailer. But who else takes an herb garden camping? Here are the few I took last year: http://flickr.com/photos/jenthies/sets/72157594247850281/
