what did you do on your way home from work?
So last night I left work with a $10 gift card to Kohl's and a need for a tire gauge. Somehow I came home at 9:30pm with two bags of shopping from Target and Kohl's.

First I went into Kohl's with that $10 burning a hole in my pocket. I tried on a bunch of clothes. Tons of pants in different cuts and brands, a few tops, a couple of dresses, and a few blazers. I took away one pair of Levi's 515 jeans. Then as I was disappointingly placing a cool non-fitting blazer back, I noticed that the solid black ones had a different cut, so I tried it on, it fit and I took it with me. I should have stopped there, but I just can't for some reason. Then I went and looked at purses. Despite the array of red leather and some cool leopard print there wasn't the perfect combination that begged to come home with me. sigh. Onto shoes. Again, some cute options, but nothing that either fitted perfectly or begged to be added to the collection. Until I was walking out of the store and I saw a stand completely unrelated near the jewelry area of cute shoes, and they had a cool pair of brown patterned flats in my size that were comfy and on sale. Okay, sold! I'm even happily wearing them today. Shouldn't I have left there? Sure, but I had to browse the costume jewelry before finally checking out.

but I still didn't have a tire gauge, so against my better judgment, I darted over to Target. I got the tire gauge very quickly and even passed on the fancy digital ones for a plain $2 old fashioned one. But who can leave Target with only a $2 purchase. Hardly worth standing in line for. So I go check out the DVD's. Nothing inspiring. Head over to handbags. Again, nothing I love. Oh, but shoes are near by. Alas, the only really tempting pair (leopard print with a black quilted patent leather toe) was either too big or too snug. So, I head over to clothing and browse and browse and browse, and try on many options, and finally come away with a pair of lounging terry capris and a pair of Isaac Mizrahi black slacks. Yes, these are indeed the exact same pair of IM pants I bought back in March, but the next size down. Whoohoo. The old ones were just too baggy. So, finally, purchases in hand (I didn't grab a basket as I was only there for the tire gauge) I head to the register. They only have so many open, the lines are all long, and I get behind a lady who has to argue the price over 10 different items of kids clothes. So I grabbed a magazine as well to kill the time.

Neither was an insane amount of buying, which was good. But for some reason I have a hard time leaving a store until I know I've seen almost everything it has to offer. This practice is very time consuming. Alan only called me worried once though. Enough to know he thinks of me, but not harassing me to get home.

Sigh, happy retail therapy. The hunt is so much fun, even if I only captured a few things.

Classic gathering behavior -- textbook, even. You go, girl!

One would suggest perhaps Alan should go if only a single $2 item was to be purchased...

however, logic seems to be outwayed by the opportunity to go shopping. *grin*

I love the hunt...*blissful sigh* Tis why I go to garage sales. I don't often come home with something, but when I do, it is usually spot on! And the bargains I get at them to boot...*another blissful sigh*

My weakness isn't for bags or shoes, it is for jewelry. I had to leave the gem and jewelry show last weekend after I made my purchase last weekend. That was the first time I did that before I saw everything there was to see. But I knew I would keep hunting and gathering otherwise. But I did some fruitful browsing and grazing first! Usually I can get good prices on ebay, and Chico's usually has good sales too!

See, jewelry only inspires me if it is pearls or coral, and then I remember all the other pearl and coral jewelry that I own and do not wear. I actually wear far more jewelry in the SCA and even with that I have a bunch than languishes. But shoes, ah shoes. My shoe corner of the bedroom is bursting, and yet I buy more. And bags, I get some of the best bags at Marshall's/Ross.

Congrats on being about to leave the jewelry show early. :)

Well, after my early reply, I had to be honest with myself. See, I used to wear a lot of black, and only black, paired with yet more black. So I needed a lot of jewelry to spruce it up. Usually silver.

But, in the last few years, I have branched out *quite* a bit and have been expanding my jewelry wardrobe into quite a few really neat areas. not only do I make my own, but I like to buy gems as well as antique chokers, deco necklaces, etc. My mother-in-law can be directly blamed for influencing my trend toward "bauble-ism".

Now with shoes, I stick with the tried and true. Black, usually sensible mary jane looking, with a low heel. Why? Because I have had chronic foot problems, and cute flirty little shoes don't go well with my size 10-11 feet that need good arch support, soft heel support and won't trouble my plantar fasciitis. *sigh* I used to be a true shoe girl.

And I didn't think I was a purse girl until I moved my purse collection one day and realized I had *alot* of purses and clutches. I didn't know I had collected so many, most of them vintage (from garage sales). I try to rotate them, but mostly use one at a time until it wears out. Again though, usually black so as not to detract from the jewelry. See, can't get away from my true love!

You know I am depressed if I can't summon energy to buy, or wear, jewelry. I am feeling much better when it makes a reappearance! One of the best barometers there is for me!

I sometimes wear necklaces, but often find most of them really too short and chokers on me. I hate chains since they snarl in my hair at the back of my neck. I haven't worn earrings since 7th grade, and the only rings I really wear are my engagement and wedding rings. And bracelets tend to get in the way of the typing and mouse action at work. I guess I've just ran into too many jewelry obstacles for it to be fun and easy for me.

Heck, a faculty member of mine brought me from Taiwan a polished tiger's eye lozenge that would be a perfect pendant on a necklace, that is still floating in the bottom of my purse in a plastic bag.

But y'know, Isobel wears mostly all black and also wears lots of neat jewelry. I'm sensing a trend. I love color, so I guess color is my one main accessory.
