Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival
Had a great time at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival this weekend. I gave out all 75 handouts I'd made over the course of the two days, and introduced lots of folks to sprang who had never heard of it before.
I got to meet a lovely lady from Michigan who works at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology (must inspect collection) and talked to her about their sprang fabrics. She said they had images of their collection online. I finished one small Coptic twine patterned bag each day, which made me feel productive and gleeful.

I did get too much time in the sun, and have some interesting burn patches from a lack of sunscreen coverage and wearing my Roman chiton tunica on Saturday. I'm also dog tired from two days of talking, spranging, and working with the public. When I got in the truck this evening to head home the song playing was "A Hard Day's Night", and man am I feeling it, even after a nice nap.

But, I took a bunch of pictures of our set-up and the textile arts being displayed on both days for posterity:

And here are my two completed bags from the weekend:

That pink of the pink and black striped bag is a naturally dyed wool that I found on Saturday and had to buy and use! Isn't it awesome?

And big thanks goes out to Tom and Heather for bringing me lunch on the very busy Saturday, to Alyce and Lisette for being fun shopping partners on Saturday and for providing addictive kettle-corn, Isobel as a fun shopping partner on Sunday and to Ynes for sprang camaraderie on Saturday.

First off, your sprang looks great!!! Good job!!!

Second... you met someone from the Kelsey???? WAHHHH!!! Now I REALLY wish I'd been able to go. Okay, I really wanted to go anyhow, but damn... The Kelsey is where I got all those wonderful pics of Coptic twined stuff. If you want the link to look at them, e-mail me, and I'll send you that. I think it's also on the sprang list (that's where I got it, duh! LOL), so if you dig back into the archives, you can probably find it there, as well.

Even better, she was one of the ladies who did some picture taking of additional textiles in their collection and reclassified more items as sprang. She asked me to go look at the items in the database and let her know if she got anything wrong. I really wish I had had the presence of mind to ask her if she had her card on her.

So go look at the online database, as there might be something new!

There was also another lady at the end of the day on Sunday when my brain was done who was asking me questions about a description of a textile in Exodus written around 1000BC (?) of bags used in transport of items, and all I could do is show her the technique and the information I had on me. She got my last piece of paper with links and URLs on the subject, and if she contacts me, I'll let you know.

The pink and black bag is too cute for words! And I hope you got to spend more time in the shade on Sunday.

On a completely unrelated note, I checked the MS&W vendor register, and I can confidently say I'm a mite pissed.
