A dedicated teacher and student across the wide spectrum of arts, this gentleman has given freely of his time and energy to serve the University of Atlantia in body and spirit. With fulsome thanks, the Honorary degree of Doctor of Arts of the University of Atlantia is awarded to Master Eldred Aelfwald on October 3rd, Anno Societatis 44.

So this Chancellor gig isn't all bad. ;) University this weekend was lots of fun. Though the session was small, we happy few had a good time. Muchos Gracias for my many wonderful instructors, and eager students.

Of course making the trip ten times more enjoyable was Jimmy and Kit's fine company. Whether it was our driver keeping us laughing and entertained during the road time, helping me with the load of stuff, my faithful registrar keeping everything on an even keel such that I could kick her away from the table to take some of the rapier classes, and making sure I was up and on site in time. Early risers that they are, they even let me sleep in this morning a bit. Big thanks go to the Cunnings for the fine dinner choice and amazing company for Saturday evenings activities. I even got to meet the cute and energetic Yap Yap.

Good weekend. Perhaps I'll read a bit in bed before crashing out. Although it almost seems a shame to disturb the snoozing pup and snoring husband just to drag them upstairs. :)

Okay, so I've really been trying to think of something to post, but University has been taking up my brainspace.

Oh look, a topic.

The next session of University of Atlantia is this weekend down near Greenville, NC. You can pre-reg online through Thursday, and then on-site starting at 9am. I just hope that my one nightmare of showing up to University without the box of stuff doesn't come true. I mean, shouting "Ding a ling!" isn't as effective as ringing the bell. I've also already had two instructors cancel on me due to health reasons, but I hope that's all. (Update: Argh, a 3rd instructor had to bail. *pout*)

~
I also had to work on Saturday at the Undergraduate Fall Faculty Meeting. We were intending to have a booth where faculty could play with some of the new conferencing features and then register for the training session. No one wanted to play, but we did get quite a few registered for training. The training is required for all faculty who want to teach online or hybrid classes in the Spring. Sensing a target of opportunity, I picked up a stack of our half-flyers, with the URL to sign up for training on it, and went to talk to the folks waiting in the buffet line for lunch. Then I went to the tables in the ballroom to get a few more. Yet more proselytizing, just about a different cause than Plimoth, or Jamestown, or Komen for the Cure, or etc.

Then I spent the rest of the weekend kinda sloth like. I Costco'd, napped, walked the dog, and ordered a pizza for the rest of Saturday. Then on Sunday I slept in, made brunch, read a bunch of Sunshine, even read some Sunshine while basking in the sunshine on the patio (note: I'm a slow reader), napped, walked the dog what I thought was 3 miles but ended up being 2.8, fetched carry-out for dinner, and then made some blueberry muffins. Alas, no cleaning, embroidery, sewing, or even running errands so I can have a working serger foot pedal. Ah well.

We survived the Children's Day at Jamestown on Saturday. It was fun and fairly relaxed, mostly hanging out by the Devon Oven as Sandy made bread and the rest of us just talked and tried to get the kids to play with some games and leave the chickens alone. It was great to have Catherine and the kids around too, to help some kids play games and to just be around and being children, making their own fun. Also cool to see Dangerboy and his parents, and to hear that Dangerboy was having a great time. History is fun! Good day.

We went back to do a little shopping in the gift shop and came home with some new books. And upon CG's recommendation we went to the Bass Pro Shop in Ashland on the way home to eat lunch at the Fish Company restaurant. That was some good eats, and Alan naturally saw the big fish tank behind the bar and asked if he could have one. I asked him if he was going to quit his job to manage a Bass Pro Shop... After lunch we then spent some time walking around window shopping, I took a couple of chances at the shooting gallery, and toyed with the idea of buying stuff for Ladybug while there. Alan drew the line at the doggie booties since they'd drive her bonkers, or more bonkers than she already is, so we walked out without purchasing anything but our meal.

So we're home, the pup has been retrieved from the All Dogs Club and is passed out on her comfy bed in the den, and the last load of laundry is in the dryer. I've got the University classes almost ready to release, I just need Thjora as one more set of eyes to look over them, and hope to open them for registration tomorrow. And now I think it is well past time for bed.

I have a cute husband snoring on the couch, and a tired pup crashed out on her bed while I watch more of the Dirty Jobs marathon.

We've had a fun full weekend. Spent Friday night at home out on the patio enjoying grilled streaks with mashed taters and a crisp salad. Good food, lovely weather and the best company of my sweetie and our pup.

Saturday I slept in nice and late, made a yummy brunch of the leftover steak and some eggs, and we got on the road to Arvonia. I got to embroider while Alan drove to the farm, where we got to see the progress made and spend some time with friends. Saw Cyndi's progress on her embroidered sleeves, plans for Tom and Heather's new country home and plot, and awww over the poor gimpy feet. After dessert we said our goodbyes and made our way to M&M's place for more pup play and good conversation with Mike and Kirsten before crashing.

Sunday dawned with the sound of the pond waterfall, the occassional frog chirp, and eventually fresh scones for breakfast. While we had fun company, we got back on the road home before noon. The pup spent most of the time crashed out in the back of the truck, but I did try to keep a bit of vigilance for the cool truck I spotted on the way down. In Warrenton I saw the truck again so we pulled a u-turn to go inspect it. A pretty silver 65 Chevy truck with a 350 engine and locking hubs for 4x4. Nice old truck.

Once home Alan was useful and the pup and I napped solidly. But we had more plans for that evening. Around 5 we headed up North to the Toscano's to help celebrate Carla's birthday, which also gave the Bug time to run around with the beagles. The food was as good as anticipated, the company was charming, and the conversation never ceased to entertain.

Today we did some shopping at IKEA (alas a bust), Lowe's which was mostly window shopping, Behnke's for crape myrtles, and Home Depot. I sandwiched the shopping with the Dirty Jobs marathon on the Discovery Channel and some work organizing UofA class proposals. Not a bad weekend at all, but I could use another one.

I meant to post last night, but a certain pup kept nudging my elbow when I quit paying attention to her, so it was impossible.

I've had thoughts about the conflict in Iran, appreciation to those who are posting info, aghast at the blatant election fraud, inspiration at the silent protests, hesitant to wear green myself because I don't see how I can have a voice in Iran for who should lead, but fully support that each Iranian vote should be counted. If they vote in a crazy conservative Holocaust-denier then so be it, but let it be real. Go Iranian people, you are awesome!

I've been meaning to post on the Golden Rose Tourney, appreciation for all those who took pictures, aghast at my fatness in them, the wonderful spirit of the day, the beauty of the procession and the field, and the fun had by most in attendance, despite the heat.

I've been meaning to post more on UofA, how awesome Crois Brigte folks were, the loveliness of the site, my appreciation for Eldred's job well-done holding the custody of the University, my appreciation for those who took my class, fun company of Thjora, and dinner with folks before departing. Oh, and the deer, but that's been told, more or less. BTW, we got the car back from repairs on Monday, she's just as beautiful as new, and I'm grateful that they handled the claim and repairs in a week. F'ing Ay GEICO!

And I'm not sure if I've really said all I wanted to about our last Plimoth trip. Still need to make a "Real Men don't Sparkle, they Spangle" icon of Ansel working on a frame.

But I am still alive, I have an adorable pup, a loving husband, and a nice house I get to actually share with them this weekend. yay!

Classes for University of Atlantia Session #75 hosted by the Canton of Crois Brigte in Winston-Salem NC are posted and pre-registration is open. Looks to be yet another good set of classes.

Since Eldred will pass the figuritive baton to me at this session, I thought this might be my last opportunity to teach for a while. I've got a class on the Plimoth Jacket scheduled for the first hour (woof, mornings). I'll need to re-work the initial handout and determine what can be covered in an hour, and shift the focus from participation to the overall project.

That being said, I think the Ladybug pup is going to hate me by June 14th with four weekends away in a row- Sapphire, Plimoth, UofA, and Golden Rose. I don't see a "No Pets" policy for Golden Rose, but I fear bringing the 'Bug might be worse for all of us. Must ponder. At least Alan will be home while I'm away forPlimoth and UofA.
